Edgmont, PA

Kate Garchinsky's first word was "bird." Don’t ask her what her favorite bird is, because she loves penguins, and there are 17 different species of penguins to choose from. Like most penguins, she appreciates deep powder snow, the cool side of the pillow, campfires, dark chocolate, and tobogganing.

Kate is a children’s book illustrator and bird artist. In 2015 Kate Garchinsky was named an Eckelberry Fellow at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University in Philadelphia, where she studied the extinction of the passenger pigeon and Carolina parakeet. Before making books, Kate Garchinsky created trail maps for mountain bikers, baths for birds, toys for kids, and perfect milkshakes. She can still make perfect milkshakes—books just last longer. Kate lives in the woodlands in Edgmont, PA with her husband, Brian, two kitties, and her incorrigible beagle, Maggie May.
