BIOGRAPHY
Artist, Roxanne Shields was born in Monterrey, California. Her father, a Marine, raised her on military bases in the US and around the world. Roxanne graduated with a BA in Fine Arts from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. After graduating, she interned as a graphic artist in Baltimore and as a designer for businesses and organizations in the Baltimore/Washington metro area. After her daughter was born, she freelanced as a graphic designer and taught art in grades 1 - 12 for five years, while her daughter attended classes. She then obtained a major graphics design position in Washington D.C. In 2004, Roxanne retired from her work as a graphic designer to work at and eventually own Shepherdstown Paint & Art, a framing and art supply store in West Virginia until 2016.
Roxanne enjoys creating watercolor and acrylic paintings that celebrate American country homes, flowers, and landmarks. Her subjects include flowers, fields, pets, farm animals, and landscapes, such as barns, old buildings, churches, and courthouses. She has painted several pictures of cups and buckets full of freshly picked bouquets and terra cotta pots occupied with greenery. Many of her paintings display sunny fields of wildflowers such as daisies, goldenrod, poppies or other sunny blossoms and rustic country objects. Another popular subject matter for her paintings is local landmarks in the surrounding area of Jefferson Co, WV.
