Sales Tax Exemption for Indigenous People in Canada with Indian Status

We recognize that many indigenous people in Canada prefer not to describe themselves as Indians. The term Indian is used because it has a legal meaning in the Indian Act.

If you have a Certificate of Indian Status card and plan on shipping your orders to addresses on reserves, you can request to have an Art of Where account which is tax exempt. To request a tax exempt account, fill in the tax exemption form and email it to us with copies of the front and back of your CIS card.

If you would like to ship to addresses that are not on a reserve, there are two options:

  1. You may open two accounts, one for shipping to reserves (tax exempt) and a second account for shipping to addresses off reserve (no tax exemption).
  2. You may have one account with no tax exemption and you may claim the GST, PST or HST paid on your orders from the government afterwards.

If you have an account open already, and have shipped to reserves in the past, we cannot refund taxes already paid. You may claim the rebate from the government.
